This 2012 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes Sui Generis from Maison Dominique Laurent is a great Burgundian red wine made from Pinot Noir, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. This cuvée comes from the La Plante l’Abbé climat, situated within the Clos de Vougeot, whose vines neighbour the Grands-Échezeaux appellation. Dominique Laurent, renowned for his ‘haute couture’ approach to wine trading, selects grapes from old vines and favours minimal intervention during winemaking, as well as meticulous barrel ageing. The 2012 vintage yields a distinguished and powerful Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, with a generous nose blending ripe red fruits, dark fruits, smoky notes and floral nuances. On the palate, Dominique Laurent’s 2012 Pinot Noir offers a dense, full-bodied texture, underpinned by lovely freshness, well-structured tannins and a long, spicy finish, with hints of toast, violet and rose. This Burgundy Grand Cru, which has now developed beautifully, is the ideal accompaniment to game, leg of lamb, roast poultry or beef, and should be served at around 16 to 18 °C.
