This 2019 Saumur Clos de Guichaux is a white wine from the Loire Valley produced by Domaine Guiberteau from Chenin Blanc grapes, grown on old vines aged around 50 years on the clay-limestone soils of the Saumur appellation. The estate, which is run organically, favours a minimal-intervention winemaking approach and ageing for around 10 months in barrels on fine lees, allowing the Saumur Chenin to retain its freshness whilst developing a lovely body. On the nose, this 2019 Clos de Guichaux reveals aromas of citrus, white fruits and flowers, accompanied by a mineral and slightly salty character. On the palate, this white Saumur is straightforward, lively and well-defined, with ample body supported by crisp freshness and a lingering finish. The 2019 vintage also has excellent ageing potential, allowing the Chenin Blanc from the Loire to gain in complexity over time. Served at around 12 °C, this 2019 Saumur Clos de Guichaux will pair perfectly with roasted fish, scallops, poultry in cream sauce or goat’s cheese, and will appeal to lovers of great white wines from the Loire, Chenin Blanc and Guiberteau’s terroir-driven cuvées.
