This 2020 Côtes du Jura Poulsard Les Chazaux is a red wine from the Jura produced by Nicolas Jacob using Poulsard, the Jura’s iconic grape variety, grown on a 0.6-hectare plot in Augea, on marl soils. The vines, which are around forty years old, are cultivated according to biodynamic principles; the grapes are then harvested by hand, destemmed and vinified in vats using indigenous yeasts, before being aged for 11 months in neutral oak barrels. The nose of this Jura Poulsard reveals aromas of strawberry, raspberry and red berries, accompanied by floral, herbaceous and slightly spicy notes. On the palate, this 2020 Côtes du Jura red is supple and fresh, with silky tannins, precise acidity and a delicate texture that prolong a fruity and slightly peppery finish. Nicolas Jacob’s plot-by-plot approach highlights all the aromatic finesse of the Poulsard and the character of the Jura marl soils. Ideal with roast poultry, confit pork shank, charcuterie, aubergine gratin or Jura cheeses, this 2020 Côtes du Jura Poulsard Les Chazaux will appeal to lovers of Jura red wines, Poulsard and artisanal cuvées with a distinct character.
