The Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques 2023 from Domaine Bruno Clair is made from Pinot Noir grapes grown in a climate considered one of the greatest terroirs in Gevrey-Chambertin, often ranked among the future Grands Crus due to its recognised potential. Located on an ideally exposed hillside, Clos St Jacques produces wines of great finesse, endowed with exceptional aromatic depth.
The 2023 vintage reveals a vibrant nose of red and black fruits (morello cherry, raspberry, blackberry), enriched with elegant floral notes, fine pepper, damp earth and a touch of chalky minerality characteristic of the terroir. The palate is remarkably precise: silky texture, very finely polished tannins, perfect balance between fullness and tension, with admirable length.
This Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru expresses the full identity of the estate: subtle, non-interventionist winemaking, aiming for purity of fruit and transparency of terroir. It can be enjoyed young after decanting, but its noble structure gives it an ageing potential of 15 to 20 years, during which time it will gain in complexity and depth.
Serve at around 16°C. It will pair beautifully with fillet of venison, roast pigeon, truffled chicken or wild mushroom risotto.
A Clos St Jacques of great class, racy and vibrant, with a very bright future ahead of it.
